Throughout her educational journey, Dr. Shelby's primary focus has been on caring for others and helping them achieve their health and peak performance goals, regardless of their starting point. During her tenure in chiropractic practice, she emphasized nutrition, physical activity, and goal setting as essential pillars of patient care.
However, a life-changing car accident following her family's relocation from Florida to Georgia had a significant impact on Dr. Shelby's health. Struggling to find effective medical assistance, she faced additional challenges when diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis. Determined to find her own solutions, Dr. Shelby decided to further her education and became a Functional Medicine Practitioner through the Functional Medicine University. Functional Nutrition emerged as the answer she needed to regain her health.
Just as Dr. Shelby was preparing to return to work, her oldest child fell seriously ill, perplexing medical professionals in their search for a diagnosis. Through the combined efforts of functional nutrition, chiropractic care, and a specialized exercise regimen, her daughter's health was gradually restored, allowing her to resume her passion for collegiate volleyball.
These personal experiences deepened Dr. Shelby's understanding of what healthcare should encompass. Today, she continues to assist her patients using Functional Nutrition, comprehensive body analysis to identify cellular-level issues, exercise, mindfulness, and, most importantly, standing by her patients' side as they navigate their unique paths to wellness.
Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Shelby can often be found attending sporting events, cheering on her daughter Bria as she plays volleyball for the LIU Sharks and her son Gunnar as he represents the Rutgers Scarlet Knights in baseball. Her husband Ricky is actively involved as a coach for baseball and softball at North Atlanta High School.
